Google+ communities have opened up a new front to the usual circling of people. It is amazing to see new Communities (forums – as people call it) being created for a specific purpose.
In 3-4 days of going public, probably still under beta, Google have create a stir with people going and creating G+ communities at will. Some of them have a large amount of users, some don’t.
The difference of communities vs circles
There is a lot of confusion about circles and G+ communities.
While circling a person/friend you set him up in a particular category you require. This person posts to his will and to his topic that one may not find it interesting at all. In communities on the other hand a topic is selected and people interested in that topic is huddled together.
In short Cirlces are the opposite of Communities and converse.
Some of the drawbacks of G+ Communities are
1. All posts under G+ communities are visible on the respective profiles.
2. All posts under G+ communities are visible in the regular streams.
3. G+ community names should be unique, currently multiple G+ communities are created under the same name, it gets confusing.
4. If Google does not regulate what shows up on the G+ communities it will turn up as Orkut.
To those who say G+ Communities is same as Orkut, not at the moment though, but if not regulated you will find another orkut.
