Google apps has been doing rounds for many years. When they were first introduced, it was Email and Documents. At first those who signed up for the Google Apps Email was given 100 email accounts, down the years it was reduced to 25 and then 10. It was great when all Gmail features was provided with the Google Apps email and @MyDomain. Hotmail had the personalized domain email, Google simply beat them by the no-nonsense style and features and also was too heavy compared to Gmail.
Now when G+ both circles and communities was introduced it was a run away success. With the advent of G+ Premium features I wonder why would someone really sign up to them, well at least the G+. Can they not use private groups on the corporate website, private Google groups, closed communities on G+ Communities. Google+ is not a Google Apps Core Service, so they don’t provide the same level of technical support as for services such as Gmail.
Google+ premium features provide you with additional administrative control of Google+ for your organization, such as the ability to make the default setting for posts and hangouts retricted to your organization only. You can preview these features for free through the end of 2013. Learn more about premium features
If you haven’t yet turned on Google+:
- Activating premium features will also turn on Google+ at the top level of your user organization structure.
- You may be asked to turn on other Google Apps services that Google+ requires (such as Google Talk).
To activate Google+ premium features:
- Sign in to your Google Apps administrator control panel.
The URL is https://www.google.com/a/cpanel/primary-domain-name, where primary-domain-name is the domain name you used to sign up for Google Apps.
- Click Settings.
- In the pane on the left, click Google+.
- On the General tab, click Preview premium features.
- To set up premium features, click the Org Settings tab.
To discontinue premium features:
Follow the same steps above, but click Stop preview. You’ll be asked to confirm that you understand the effects of disabling premium features. It may take up to 8 hours for the features to be disabled for your users.
What I feel is that any upcoming features will not be available to the normal users of G+ circles and G+ communities and only for G+ premium users. So will I go premium, certainly not unless its features between heaven and earth and nothing available online can beat it.
